Vectors are potential carriers or transmitters of disease organisms. Examples include rats, mosquitoes, flies, and mice. The Environmental Health Services Division staff responds to complaints regarding these pests but does not perform any active pest control services.
Rat complaints and sightings are common throughout the county. The bureau provides
information and guidance on eliminating these pests from your property. Please see the
informational letter
for more details on rats.
Call the staff at (801) 525-5100 for further information or concerns.
Rabies
Rabies is a very serious, almost always fatal disease caused by a virus found in the saliva of infected animals. The
Davis County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services
should be advised of any animal bites received in
the county so that a determination can be made on the need for rabies testing. Dogs, cats, raccoons, skunks, and bats
that are involved in a bite/attack are commonly examined for the rabies virus. For more information, please see the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
website for more information.
In partnership with the Davis County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services and the
Utah State Public Health Laboratory, the Davis County Health Department’s Environmental Health Services Division oversees the delivery and test results involved with rabies testing of animals.
