The Davis County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center is a multi agency, multi jurisdiction dispatch center which provides dispatch services and support to 19 law enforcement agencies and 6 fire/emergency medical service agencies. This represents more than half of the residential population of Davis County and includes the unincorporated areas of Davis County, the Forest Service areas, Antelope Island, The Great Salt Lake and ten(10) cities within Davis County. The activities of the Communication Center changes with the day to day population surge during the morning and evening rush hours with the working population utilizing Highway 89, Interstate 15 and 215, and the new Legacy Parkway to commute to and from their work locations. The Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) for these Highways exceeds 150,000. Additionally, Lagoon is a major attraction for Davis County bringing more than one million visitors during the annual open season. The Communications Center is the direct link between citizens and responding police, fire and medical units. The dispatchers process an average of 4,500 911 calls and 12,000 business and administrative calls monthly. As documented in prior case studies, this Center with such a high call volume and extensive radio traffic over police, fire, medical, and service channels make this one of the busiest dispatch centers in the United States.
