Stage 1 Fire Restrictions 

All state lands –AND– all unincorporated private lands within the state of Utah.

Effective Date: 12:01 a.m., 28th day of June, 2025

What Stage 1 Fire Restrictions Include:

  • No open fires except in approved public facilities or code-compliant home fire pits with running water nearby.
  • No fireworks, tracer ammunition, or explosive targets.
  • No smoking near dry vegetation. 
  • No welding, grinding, or metal cutting in dry areas.
  • No off-road or small engine use without a spark arrestor.

While fireworks are legally permitted in certain areas and on specific dates, we urge residents to avoid home displays and instead attend professional shows.

If you do light fireworks:

  • Ensure you are in a legal area to discharge fireworks.
  • Stay clear of brush, trees, and dry grass.
  • Always have a hose or water bucket nearby.
  • Fully soak spent fireworks with water before discarding.
  • Use bricks or cinder blocks to prevent cake fireworks from tipping over.
  • Children under 16 may not handle or operate aerial fireworks.
  • Fireworks may only be discharged July 2-5 and July 22-25.

Fireworks Sale Periods (Division 1.4G Common State‑Approved Explosives)

Per Utah Code 53‑7‑225(2):

  • June 24 – July 25

Legal Discharge Dates & Times

Per Utah Code 53‑7‑225(3):

  • July 2–5 (4th extended until midnight) – discharge allowed 11 a.m.–11 p.m. (midnight on July 4)
  • July 22–25 (24th extended until midnight) – same hours

Statutory Penalties & Restrictions

  • Discharging outside these dates/times or in prohibited areas (e.g., high-risk, restricted zones) is an infraction, with fines up to $1,000 per 53‑7‑225(4)
  • Counties, cities, and the State Forester may not further restrict fireworks during approved periods, except in cases of “negligent discharge” or environmental hazards per 53‑7‑225(5). Exceptions from Utah Fireworks Act:: 53-7-221 (3) Section 53-7-225 does not supersede Section 65A-8-212 regarding the authority of the state forester to close hazardous areas.
  • Additionally, Utah Code 53‑7‑225.1 makes individuals (and, if minors, their guardians) civilly liable for suppression costs and damages resulting from negligent, reckless, or intentional fires—even if within legal periods/areas
