Under close supervision from a Sergeant and teamed with a Deputy/Paramedic, responds to medical emergencies and performs working level pre-hospital advanced life support care to victims of injury or illness.
Example of Duties

Responds to requests for emergency medical services. Assesses patients’ medical needs; identifies signs and symptoms and provides pre-hospital treatment, i.e., advanced cardiac life support and advanced trauma life support. Administers treatment and medication. Maintains medical supplies and equipment; reviews medications and equipment each shift to ensure proper control and inventory. Comprehends and documents complete and accurate patient histories. Accurately prepare reports and paperwork as required in a timely manner complete and in compliance with the Davis County Sheriff’s Office and State EMS policy and procedures. Transmits messages on a two-way radio system to physicians, medical facilities, and dispatch center using proper medical and professional radio procedures. Operates a motor vehicle in safe manner in compliance with all Utah laws and regulations. Performs related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
High school graduation or equivalent.
Must be at least 21 years of age. Must possess a valid Paramedic certification issued by the Utah Bureau of Emergency Medical Services, or a Paramedic Certification from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Note: Applicants with a certification from the National Registry must acquire and present to the Human Resources Office a Paramedic Certification issued by the Utah Bureau of Emergency Medical Services prior to hire date. Employment is contingent upon possession of a valid Paramedic Certification issued by the Utah Bureau of Emergency Medical Services. Must pass the Davis County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) background investigation. As part of the background investigation, the DCSO requests that all applicants submit to a pre-employment polygraph examination. Must maintain state-mandated continuing education requirements, including current American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or equivalent. Must possess a valid driver license; new employees with an out-of-state license must obtain a valid Utah Driver License within sixty (60) days of hire date (exceptions for military personnel and their dependents). Employees driving a personal or a County vehicle for job related travel must possess a valid driver license and must operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge of: basic and advanced life support procedures; existing triage, treatment and patient transport protocols; medical supplies and equipment; medical terminology and procedures. Proficiency in basic and advanced life support procedures. This position may require the driving of a motor vehicle; skill in operating a motor vehicle in a safe manner; ability to insure motor vehicle is operating in a safe manner; knowledge of Utah motor vehicle rules and regulations. Ability to: properly and efficiently use medical instruments and equipment; make rapid and sound decisions under pressure; exercise appropriate tactics in medical emergencies; handle high levels of personal stress and maintain composure under a variety of adverse conditions, including verbal and physical abuse, witnessing death and critical injuries and experiencing risk of personal harm; observe and document as a witness events and/or actions that may be needed in the enforcement state or local laws; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other employees, other agencies and the general public; follow written and oral instructions; communicate effectively , verbally and in writing.
