Job Description

General Purpose

Administers COVID-19 immunizations in outdoor and indoor environments throughout Davis County.

Several positions are available.  These positions are limited funding/time positions.

Example of Duties

Administers COVID-19 vaccinesAdministers other vaccines when needed such as influenza, pneumonia, shingles, MMR, HPV, TDAP.  Uses established standards of practice to administer immunizations, provide health counseling, education, and contribute to assessing the health status of groups and individuals.


 Assesses and evaluates client immunization status using knowledge of current vaccine preventable diseases, immunization guidelines, schedules, and department protocols. Administers vaccines safely, accurately and in compliance with the drug manufacturers and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance.  Monitors for adverse reactions and applies appropriate medical interventions, as needed.

 Monitors vaccine inventory, equipment and supplies at assigned work locations.  Maintains accuracy and complete reporting.

 Communicates and works with the team to execute assigned tasks and responsibilities according to program goals, contracts, and department expectations.

 Provides information, education, screening, and interventions, including venipuncture for a variety of health conditions.

 Uses infection control practices to collect and handle patient specimens, including but not limited to, oral, nasopharyngeal, blood, urine, and sputum.

 Interacts and communicates effectively with persons of all ages, abilities, socioeconomic status, education, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and lifestyles.

 Provides timely and accurate medical-legal documentation and record management. Follows all legal requirement such as HIPAA

Contributes to a work environment where continuous quality improvement in services and professional practice are pursued. 

Operates a motor vehicle in a safe manner and in compliance with all Utah laws and regulations.

 Performs related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience


PAYRATE FOR NON-RN: $20/hr Salary commensurate with experience.

Non-RN requirements: Must possess and maintain medical credentials to administer vaccinations independently: Licensed Practical Nurse or Temporary Nurse Apprentice issued by the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing, OR Paramedic or Advanced Emergency Medical Technician certification in the State of Utah. 


PAYRATE FOR RN: $25 - $30/hr Salary commensurate with experience.

RN requirements: Graduation from an accredited nursing college or university.  Must possess and maintain a valid and current Registered Nurse License issued by the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing.  Preference for at least 1 year work experience as an RN.

Preferences for all levels:

  • Fluency in both Spanish and English.  Note: Fluency defined as proficiency in both languages as evidenced by the ability to verbally interpret and translate written documents from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English.
  • Experience administering immunizations (pediatric, adolescent, and adult)
  • Public Health experience


Special Qualifications

Must possess current CPR certification. 

Must pass a criminal history background investigation as required by the position. 

Must possess a valid driver license; new employees with an out-of-state license must obtain a valid Utah Driver License within sixty (60) days of hire date (exceptions for military personnel and their dependents). 

Employees must furnish personal transportation for on-the-job travel and must maintain the minimum vehicle liability insurance as specified in the Utah Code.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Working knowledge of:  practical nursing theory and practice, epidemiology and communicable disease control; universal precautions; nutrition; safety; ethnic health and nutrition practices; public health based nursing practice, health education, and current health issues.

Skill in: using all applicable computer hardware and software programs and applications, including Microsoft Office products; using common office equipment including a multi-function copier, fax machine, multi-line telephone and 10-key calculator.  

This position may require the driving of a motor vehicle; skill in operating a motor vehicle in a safe manner; ability to insure a motor vehicle is operating in a safe manner; knowledge of Utah motor vehicle rules and regulations. 

Ability to: use information technology to collect, input and maintain accurate information; provide practical nursing care; recognize community health needs, establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other employees, patients, health care providers, and the general public; communicate effectively (orally and in writing), follow written and oral instructions; remain calm in emergencies, maintain confidentiality.

WORKING CONDITIONS: COVID testing is conducted using a drive-through model and in all types of weather conditions.  Work is typically performed directly with the public in clinics, schools, homes, and other locations within the community and may require daily travel from one work site to another; may be required to work in uncomfortable conditions, i.e. hot, cold, aromatic, noisy and/or dirty. 

Position requires frequent exposure to the public with contagious or infectious diseases; interactions with angry, agitated and otherwise upset individuals; situations involving high-stress, confrontational, emotionally charged, or uncomfortable circumstances; exposure to hazardous chemicals. This position may require the use of a respirator - medical clearance, training, and fit testing will be provided. 

Requires sitting and standing for long periods of time; performing repetitive motor tasks; regular walking, stooping, standing, bending, twisting, sitting, carrying, pushing, pulling as well as occasional lifting and/or otherwise moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds; use of tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. Driving a motor vehicle; maintaining concentrated attention to detail, communicating via email and cellular phone is required.
