by Natalie Babbitt
The novel begins with Winnie Foster who is dissatisfied with her family and dreams of running away. One day, while she is in the woods, she sees a 17-year-old boy drinking from a spring. His name is Jesse Tuck, and he refuses to let her drink but doesn’t explain why. Later, she is taken by Jesse's brother, Miles, and mother, Mae. They explain that the spring grants the gift of immortality, and they have to take her with them so that she will keep their secret.
An amazing story that asks the question of what would you do for eternal life?
