Take a ride on the wild side at the annual Antelope Island by Moonlight Bike Ride. Since the inaugural ride in 1994, organized by Davis County with support from Friends of Antelope Island, the event has continued to attract families and community members for nearly three decades.
The Antelope Island by Moonlight Bike Ride was created to put the spotlight on Davis County’s crown jewel, Antelope Island State Park. Due to the 1992 construction project, the improved Causeway allowed visitors easier access to the Island and the County was now able to share this northern Utah oasis with others.
This annual event grew in popularity as families found joy riding across the island under the glow of the summer’s full moon. The Moonlight Bike Ride is non-competitive so riders can simply enjoy the ride. The route is an out-and-back 24-mile loop on asphalt road, starting from White Rock Bay. Each year the Ride has a new theme where costumes and bike decorations associated with that year's festivities are encouraged! The event's pre-party consists of local vendors, music, entertainment, food trucks, and more! As part of the registration, each rided is served light refreshments at the halfway point, Fielding Garr Ranch. Nature sets the stage for this adventure on two wheels, with roaming bison, howling coyotes, and the stunning backdrop of the mainland’s twinkling lights across the lake.
Today, this event is so much more than just a bike ride. It’s a whole experience from start to finish: the lively pre-party, costume contests, bike decorating, family traditions, socialization, discovering local vendors, meeting friends and family for another party at Garr Ranch, and of course, seeing one of Utah's most beautiful landscapes, Antelope Island, by moonlight -- a unique experience itself.
In addition to being a spectacular event, proceeds of this ride go to Friends of Antelope Island -- one of the original supporting organizations of the Moonlight Bike Ride -- for projects that enhance the Antelope Island visitor experience and help bring improvements to the Island so all can continue to enjoy this land for many years to come. We thank them for their continued support for bringing improvements to the Island, as well as the local community, Utah State Parks and Discover Davis, the tourism organization that continues to promote and market Antelope Island State Park.
Antelope by Moonlight is an annual event put on Discover Davis, with the help and assitance from Antelope Island State Park, committee members, and community partners.
