Corrections as a Career

Corrections is one of the faster growing career fields in the country.  Dedicated, professional staff are needed in order to safely and securely operate a correctional facility.  Corrections employees provide a valuable service of community protection.  This is accomplished by incarcerating offenders consistent with court orders and operating the correctional facility in a manner that keeps staff, the offender and the public safe.  The Davis County Correctional Facility maintains habilitative programs designed to assist offenders in returning to the community as law abiding and productive members of the community.

Corrections deputies are responsible for the supervision, safety and security of inmates housed at the Davis County Correctional Facility. These deputies supervise a diverse population of inmates including inmates held on county, state and federal charges.

Deputies are tasked with maintaining order and discipline within the jail, searching inmates and their housing units for contraband, transportation of inmates to medical appointments outside of the facility, responding to emergencies and many other duties.  All Corrections deputies are mandated by the Utah Department of Public Safety to be Corrections certified through Utah Peace Officer Standards and Training and are required to participate in a minimum of 40 hours of job related training each year to maintain their State certification.

The Davis County Sheriff’s Office currently offers Academy training for Corrections deputies at no cost and pays the employee wages while attending the Academy.  Academy training lasts approximately 12 weeks followed by a field training and probationary period of one year.
