UPDATE ON COLLABORATIVE CLEANUP OF WIND DAMAGE IN DAVIS COUNTY

Farmington, UT – Thanks to the collaborative efforts of city, state, and county agencies, good progress has been made on cleanup efforts of last week’s hurricane-force winds in Davis County.

Cities throughout Davis County began cleanup efforts on September 8, with the support of Davis County agencies. On September 10, the Utah Department of Transportation began providing support to Davis County. The Utah National Guard was mobilized to assist with immediate needs and arrived in Davis County on September 11.

The majority of the 15 cities within Davis County have completed the most immediate cleanup efforts; however, all cities are continuing cleanup and likely will be for some time.

“To effectively manage this emergency, and the collaborative support from other government agencies, our focus is on eliminating public hazards and addressing infrastructure issues,” said Davis County Emergency Manager Chad Monroe. “We’re incredibly grateful for the mutual aid that has been given over the past week, as well as for the support that has been offered and provided by other entities and individuals.”

The effort of clearing public and residential streets of downed trees and debris has been one of the primary tasks completed by public agencies and volunteers. As state emergency response crews move on to assist other counties impacted by the wind damage, cleanup responsibility will shift solely to respective cities, and their residents and businesses.

Each city will continue to manage their cleanup response based on their priorities. Residents are asked to assist with debris removal by taking what they can to the landfill and using their trash/yard waste bins. When transporting debris to the landfill, it is important that loads are secure to ensure the safety of all motorists and to prevent further damage.

“The landfills in Bountiful and Layton have been great partners in the cleanup efforts,” stated Chad Monroe. “They’re both temporarily waiving clean green waste fees for residents and, like many others, their crews have been working tirelessly over the past week.”

Details about the waived fees for clean green waste at the Davis Landfill (in Layton) are available in a press release shared by Wasatch Integrated Waste Management District on September 9. Details about the waived fees for clean green waste, and temporary extended hours, at the Bountiful City Landfill are available online and on their social media accounts.
