Only fire from approved firing lines at approved targets.
Ammo Restrictions
No tracer or incendiary ammunition. Steel core restricted seasonally.
Firearm Transport & Handling
Transport uncased firearms with actions open and muzzles up. Uncase only at the bench when the range is hot.
Muzzle Discipline
Always point downrange. Keep finger off trigger until ready to fire.
Cease Fire Protocol
No handling firearms while others are downrange.
No Drugs or Alcohol
No alcoholic beverages on the range at any time. No intoxicated shooters or spectators. Violators will be removed without refund.
Full Rules
Eye and ear protection is mandatory for all personnel while the range is active. Eye protection can be prescription glasses, sunglasses, or safety glasses.
- Shooters entering the range must transport any uncased firearm with the action open and muzzle up.
- Uncased firearms may only be placed on benches when the range is hot. Until then, they may be placed in a stand (if available) under RO supervision.
- Cased firearms must be cased and uncased at the bench only when the range is hot, with the muzzle pointing downrange.
- No firearms may be used in any bay without a clearly identified Range Officer present.
All customers are to park in the public (main) parking lot. Customers may drive to the public range bays to unload and load equipment, then must move their vehicles to the public parking area.
Alcoholic beverages will not be consumed on the range at any time. No shooters or spectators may be intoxicated anywhere on the county gun range. Violators will be removed without refund.
- No metal targets may be placed closer than 50 yards on the public range for centerfire ammunition.
- .22 cal metal targets may be used at 25 yards for rimfire ammunition, per manufacturer's instructions.
- No targets may be placed on any paved areas or on the base of a target stand.
- Pressure vessels (e.g., propane cylinders) may not be used as targets.
- Only approved and certified metal targets may be used on the range.
- Glass or ceramic targets are prohibited at all times.
- Plastic bottles, cans, or similar targets may be used but must be no closer than 12 yards in front of the firing line. Shooters are responsible for removing these targets and cleaning up any residue before leaving.
- Tannerite or similar reactive targets are prohibited on the public range.
- Tracer and incendiary ammunition are prohibited.
- Steel core ammunition is prohibited from July 1 through September 15 to mitigate fire danger, unless otherwise specified.
- When using restricted ammunition types, patrons must supply their own targets and may not shoot range equipment such as plate racks. Damages caused by non-compliance are the shooter's liability.
No patrons may wear an exposed sidearm on the public range.
- The Davis Shooting Range is a cashless operation.
- All patrons must sign in and pay directly through the Public Range app or website.
- The liability waiver must be signed electronically at sign-in.
- No one under 8 years of age may handle any firearm or perform a shooting action unless under the direct supervision of a parent or guardian.
- Minors participating in range activities must be able to understand and follow direction and act in a responsible manner.
- No one under 18 may handle firearms or perform a shooting action unless a responsible adult is present and accompanying the minor.
