John Petroff Jr., Commission Chair

Commissioner John Petroff, Jr. was officially sworn into office as Davis County Commissioner January 5th, 2009. Before being elected as a Commissioner, he was serving his second-term as the Mayor of West Point City. He had also spent one term as a West Point City Council member.

John, "JP" as he is widely known, has gained experience to help lead Davis County in turbulent times through private business ownership and years of public service. He has worked on several community and regional councils organized to build a better life for Davis County residents. He has served as committee chairman of the Build Legacy Now committee, on the Wasatch Integrated Waste Management board and chair of the Wasatch Front Regional council, a transportation planning committee comprised of mayors and commissioners from five counties along the Wasatch front.

JP and his family relocated from their home in Colorado to Davis County in 1980, where he first ventured into the world of private business ownership. He has been a small business owner ever since, totaling 28 years now. In that time he has run several successful business operations, some including JP's Chevron, JP's American Car Care Center and JP's Towing. 'It wasn't easy to uproot our three children, two of which were in high school,' Petroff said. 'But we believed that Davis County held a better life. Twenty-eight years later, I can say it was the best decision we ever made for our family.'

JP and his wife Pam currently reside in West Point. They have been married for 45 years and have three grown children, thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
