Safe Harbor and the Davis County Commission Recognize Clearfield High Student Body for Incredible Donation

Commissioner Millburn and representatives from Safe Harbor give thanks to Clearfield High student body officers for their large donation of more than $48k just before Christmas.
Davis County Commissioner Bret Millburn joined representatives from Safe Harbor domestic violence shelter to give thanks to students who raised nearly $49k on Jan. 19.

Kristen Floyd, executive director of Safe Harbor, presented students with a plaque and oversized thank you card signed by members of the board.

Floyd spoke through tears as she said, "We've never had a school raise funds for Safe Harbor, we were hoping to get $10,000. We were there with them throughout the week and witnessed groups of students throwing large sums of money together in the auction and shouting out 'We have $800 over here!' It was intense."

Millburn, who serves as the board chair, spoke to students on behalf of the board saying, "As a board we were completely blown away by the work and effort that all of you did." you probably wont ever realize the impact that you've had, but you have changed lives and possibly even generations"

Floyd said that some of the money will go towards a donor database system to help them find sustainable donors. She also said that this year they have lost $150,000 in federal grant money, so this donation is well received by board members.

Student body officers at the school have the opportunity to choose a charity each year and raise funds. This year Colton Robbons, SBO over service, chose Safe Harbor as its "Falcons are Fabulous" donation recipient.

The students held activities for a week a half in December to collect money. Some of the activities included a head shaving auction, a penny war and a talent show. The activities concluded with an assembly where the students presented Safe Harbor with $48,628.
