Physicians, Dentists, and other opioid prescribes have a unique roll to play in the reduction of opioid overdose deaths.    

Acquire Information

Utilize Use Only as Directed materials and hang up fliers/posters around your hospital, clinic, pharmacy,      etc.

Provide patient with information about safeguarding their medications.

Review prescribing practices and encourage continuing education related to prescription drug abuse and responsible prescribing, especially for opioids. 

Educate Patients 

Ensure patients understand the benefits and risks of opioid medication

Instruct patients on how to use narcan and encourage narcan perscriptions to be filled along with opioid prescriptions
