Job Description

General Purpose
Under general supervision of the Administrative Sergeant in Patrol, prepares crossing zone and performs assists children in crossing streets safely.
Example of Duties
(Any one position does not include all of the duties listed; nor do the listed examples include all duties which may be found in positions of this class). Prepares school crossing zone; activates both 20 MPH flashing lights in designated areas; places warning cones strategically in the street. Watches traffic closely and stops cars when necessary; escorts children safely across the street. When shift is complete, turn off both 20 MPH flashing lights and remove warning cones from the street. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
This is an entry level position requiring no minimum amount of education or experience.  Preference will be given to those in the vicinity of 3600 South 800 West in Bountiful.
Special Qualifications
Must pass the Davis County Sheriff’s Office background investigation. As part of the background investigation, the DCSO requests that all applicants submit to a pre-employment polygraph examination.  Employees driving a personal or a County vehicle for job related travel must possess a valid driver license and must operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner; new employees with an out-of-state license must obtain a valid Utah Driver License within sixty (60) days of hire date (exceptions for military personnel and their dependents).   Employees driving a personal vehicle while on county business must maintain the minimum vehicle liability insurance as specified in the Utah Code.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of: current Utah traffic laws; traffic flow and emergency procedures. This position may require the driving of a motor vehicle; skill in operating a motor vehicle in a safe manner; ability to insure motor vehicle is operating in a safe manner; knowledge of Utah motor vehicle rules and regulations. Ability to: exercise sound independent judgment in safely escorting children; use accurate judgment of traffic flow, speed, and direction of travel; use hand-held stop sign, reflector vest, cones, and flashing MPH lights; lift, move and carry items weighing 20 pounds; work outside in extreme temperatures and inclement weather conditions; respond and react quickly to emergency situations; follow written and oral instructions; communicate effectively with children, teachers, and parents; maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other employees and the general public.
