Bio:
Stella - german shepherd/lab mix, 3 years old, spayed stella loves people, especially her people. She is most content and excited when she can be right next to you or under your feet. She is always happy to see you and wants to give her people licks and full body hugs. Her favorite activities include helping to cook (by hoovering the floor), playing keep away with tennis balls, and winning at tug of war. As a german shepherd/lab mix, stella has a powerful nose - she loves scent games and tracking down the cats (or anything else that needs finding). Her perfect day would be one that's full of activity, preferably outside such as hiking or hunting where she can get out and smell the smells and see the sights, or being active with someone who will play with her consistently. Stella is kennel trained and content to sleep in her crate during work hours or overnight. She's equally happy sleeping under your desk while you work - she doesn't need constant interaction, just proximity to her people. However, once you're up and moving, she assumes it's playtime and wants to be involved. The entire back half of her body wags when she is happy or excited. She is current on shots, house trained, and very treat motivated. She knows how to sit, shake, lay down, and will occasionally roll over or stay if food is involved. Stella came to me with minimal training but has learned consistently over the past two years and is responsive to continued development. Stella has strong guardian instincts and will alert bark at approaching people, doorbells, and sounds at the property line. She'll run toward strangers with her intimidating bark, but once they're close, she's all wagging tail and kisses - she wants to be friends, not a threat. While she's friendly and sweet-natured, she has the deep, protective bark typical of her shepherd heritage, which may sound intimidating despite her energetic, gentle disposition. She is not aware of her size or how heavy she is, so would do better with older children who can't be knocked down by a wagging behind or being jumped on. She has been good with cats and will want to play with them - very much a cat herder who takes it upon herself to keep them in line. She may be a bit much for timid kitties. Stella loves to play with other dogs when she gets the chance. Leash training is a work in progress - stella gets excited when she sees other dogs and will pull toward them barking because she wants to play. She needs an adopter committed to continuing her training and comfortable managing a strong, enthusiastic puller until she learns better leash manners. Ideal home: stella would thrive with an active individual or family who works from home or can include her in daily adventures. She needs multiple hours of exercise daily. A fenced yard and experience with high-energy working breeds would be ideal. She needs an owner comfortable managing her alert barking and helping guests understand she's more alarm system than guard dog. If you are interested in stella, please contact ashley at 801-791-4386.
