Our Animal Control Division is a team of dedicated professionals who work tirelessly to provide protection to both animal and human citizens of Davis County.

Educate · Enforce · Assist · Protect

  • To Educate our community in public safety and humane issues regarding animals
  • To Enforce the county ordinances and state statutes pertaining to animals
  • To Assist the public in resolving animal issues
  • To Protect the safety and welfare of the citizens and animals of this community

The Davis County Code of Ordinances contains the laws of Davis County. Refer to Title 6 to review the Animal ordinances. 

Pet Ownership Requirements



The Five Freedoms of Animals

  • Freedom from thirst, hunger and malnutrition
  • Freedom to express normal behavior for the species
  • Freedom from fear and distress
  • Freedom from pain, injury and disease
  • Freedom from discomfort due to environment

As a pet owner, you should be able to provide a safe and conducive environment for your pet to live.

  • License your pet if required by city or state code
    • ALL Dogs must be licensed by Animal Care of Davis County if it resides within county limits.
    • Cats licenses are required based off of city requirements.  Check with your local city to see if they require a cat license.  If they do, you can get your license from Animal Care of Davis County.
  • Vaccinate your pet for Rabies and other preventative diseases according to Veterinary recommendations.
  • Provide enough water, shelter and feed for your pet.
  • Pets must be on a leash in all public areas unless specifically noted (ie. Dog Parks, walking trails, etc.)
  • If your pet is found by another individual, there will be running at large fines and possible charges including animal cruelty for repeat offenses.
